Tablao "La Cueva Rociera"
The flamenco bailaora Sharon Garcia Olvera is currently living and traveling between Spain, Mexico and the U.S. where she is fulfilling an interesting artistic vision. She began her dance studies (jazz, tap, and modern dance) in Monterrey, Mexico at a very young age, to eventually focus on flamenco. She holds a B.A. in International Affairs from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education and did postgraduate studies at the Complutense University of Madrid in the field of Communications Management for Cultural Organizations, with a concentration in Music and Performing Arts. In 2006 she was part of “Mirada Flamenca” Dance Company in Washington, DC. She did her debut into the world of flamenco with this company at the American Dance Institute Theater, and after that, she performed at various auditoriums in the states of Virginia and Maryland.
Dancing prevailed in her life, so in 2007 she decided to move to Seville to study with the great masters at the Flamenco Art School of the Cristina Heeren Foundation. Her good work earned her a full scholarship granted by “American Friends of Flamenco” for two years in a row. Among other great artists, she has been taught by Milagros Mengíbar, Rafael Campallo, Carmen Ledesma, Úrsula López, José Galván, Javier Barón, Rubén Olmo, Ángel Atienza, Andés Peña, Adela Campallo, Alicia Marquez, and Juana Amaya.
At 5 years of training as a dancer in Seville, and with professional experience in Madrid, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, CA, Mexico, D.F., and Guadalajara, Sharon returned to America for a limited time to share her passion for flamenco as a teacher and as an artist, giving specialized workshops and live performances in Southern California and various cities around Mexico.
In October and November 2013 she completed a residency in Mexico City, as part of international flamenco choreographer María Juncal's flamenco dance company for her show in Mexico City "Bailamos Flamenco", which premiered at the "Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris" theater. In March 2014 she was invited to Guadalajara, Jalisco to dance at the renowned flamenco school Las Cabales’s 60th Anniversary Celebration tablao show, sharing the stage with talents from Mexico and Spain, including the talented bailaoras Triana Maciel and Lucia Campillo among other artists. At the same event, Spanish dancers Jesús Carmona and Nino de los Reyes cast Sharon in their choreographies for the show “Huellas Flamencas” at the “Teatro Degollado” theater in Guadalajara.
In August 2014 she participated in the "Festival Tradición e Interdisciplina" in Mexico, D.F., as an artist and director of the flamenco recital "Acompasaos" together with the dancer Armando Tovar and the musical ensemble La Debla. In December of the same year he was part of the Soloists Gala within the UNAM International Flamenco Festival 2014. The following year premiered "Techarí Compañía" where she was as co-director and choreographer, producing and presenting her show "Amalgama" as part of the 2015 Flamenco Season of the National Dance Coordination of the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico (INBA). In 2014 she was appointed by the Cristina Heeren Foundation of Flamenco Arts of Seville as Commercial and Cultural Affairs Delegate, North America Region.
In April 2015, she was selected as a dancer for the dance company of the dancer and choreographer Sebastián Sánchez in Mexico, D.F. performing in his productions and tours: "Impronta" in the Lunario del Auditorio Nacional and at the Gala "Memorias" under the direction of the master Antonio Canales, with Adela Campallo, "Winy" Amaya, Sebastián Sánchez, and Pastora Galván, at the Metropolitan Theater. In 2015 she created a Spanish dance project in collaboration with dancer Yunnue Rojas; and within this project, they premiered "La Mulata de Córdoba" in Mexico in 2016 and throughout 2017. At the end of the same year, she returned to Seville, where she currently lives and continues to develop her artistry as a dancer, choreographer and teacher, in order to spread the appreciation of flamenco art.
